Fiji on Saturday pulled their men’s and women’s teams out of this weekend’s round of the World Rugby Sevens series in Spain after some players tested positive for Covid.
The few players who tested positive in pre-departure tests were well and asymptomatic, Fiji Rugby chief executive John O’Connor said.
“After discussions with the Ministry of Health and considering the safety and welfare of everyone, the entire teams have moved into the mandatory seven-day isolation,” he said.
The women’s team are second after the first two rounds in the series while Olympic champions Fiji are sixth in the men’s competition.
The New Zealand men’s and women’s teams have already pulled out because Covid-enforced border restrictions meant they would not have been able to immediately re-enter the country following the tournament.
