Lions captain Warren Whiteley has been called up to the Springbok squad as a replacement for the injured Willem Alberts.
Alberts was forced to withdraw from the match-day squad against Argentina on Saturday after he picked up a hamstring strain during the captain’s run at Loftus Versfeld on Friday evening. He was given until Saturday morning to recuperate sufficiently, but the Springbok medical team decided he would not be fit enough for the game. Marcell Coetzee therefore started at No 7 with Oupa Mohoje coming onto the bench.
Alberts has also been ruled out of the trip to Argentina, with Whiteley taking his place in the squad.
The 26-year-old was a member of the Commonwealth Games gold medal-winning squad in Glasgow earlier this month.
