Coenie keen to contribute

Coenie Oosthuizen says he hopes to add value ‘all over the park’ during the Sharks’ Vodacom Super Rugby campaign.

Following the departure of Jannie du Plessis, Oosthuizen appears set to primarily slot in at tighthead prop this season, and the experienced Springbok front rower is sure to have an important role to play in a new-look pack.

‘We’ve lost guys like Bismarck and Jannie du Plessis, who are great players and have a lot of experience. But we have the talent to take the Sharks in the right direction,’ Oosthuizen told MyPlayers.co.za. ‘A guy like Tendai Mtawarira is a powerful player and it’s great packing down next to him. I also hope to play my part by adding value all over the park on attack, defence and at the set pieces.’

Oosthuizen said he was determined to play his part in helping the Sharks turn their fortunes around after a disappointing 2015 season.

‘The reality is that happens in professional sport. Every team will experience a bad run, but the important thing is learning from what went wrong, fixing it and coming back stronger. That’s what we aim to do in 2016.’

The Sharks kick off their Super Rugby campaign against the Southern Kings on 27 February.
