Co-captain Sam Cane scored one of three tries as the Chiefs opened their inaugural Super Rugby Pacific competition with a 26-16 victory over the Highlanders in Queenstown on Saturday.
Cane and No 8 Pita Sowakula helped put the hosts into an 18-6 half-time lead, and fullback Emoni Narawa marked his Chiefs debut with a score in the third quarter to repel the Highlanders’ fightback.
