Loosehead prop BG Uys will join the Cheetahs from the EP Kings after this year's Currie Cup competition.
With Trevor Nyakane moving to the Bulls at the end of the season, Cheetahs coach Naka Drotské has moved swiftly to replace the outgoing Springbok. The 26-year-old prop has signed on from the beginning of November and will be eligible for the Cheetahs' Super Rugby campaign next season. He will add some much-needed depth to the Cheetahs squad, with front rankers in Bloemfontein in seemingly short supply at present.
'We've been looking to add some depth to the squad. You now need to have four props in a 23-man squad, so it is essential to have good replacements that can scrum well,' said Cheetahs coach Naka Drotské.
'We've done our homework on BG, he's a good replacement for Trevor [Nyakane]. With Os [du Randt]'s help he can become a really great prop.'
Uys only joined the Kings in 2013 but failed to feature during their inaugural Super Rugby campaign, instead playing a part for the Leopards in the Vodacom Cup. Despite having never played a Super Rugby match, Drotské believes that Uys will be able to make the step up.
'Trevor, Coenie [Oosthuizen] and Lourens [Adriaanse] have all benefited from working with Os, and BG will certainly do the same. We will be watching BG's performances in the Currie Cup, but we are confident he will prove to be a very good player.'
