Carr to make return to England

Nizaam Carr and his Wasps teammates celebrate Nizaam Carr and his Wasps teammates celebrate
Published on June 28, 2021

The Bulls have announced that senior loose forward Nizaam Carr will be leaving the team at the end of the season to return to English club Wasps.

Carr will join up with his Wasps teammates in August after his commitments with the Bulls.

An integral part of the Bulls back row, Carr helped the Pretoria team reach the Rainbow Cup SA final this season, after winning Super Rugby Unlocked and Currie Cup last season.

In a statement on Monday, the Bulls bid Carr farewell.

“Dear Nemo … Thanks for putting in the hard yards,” it read. “Thanks for the big hits and intense work rate … thanks for being an amazing part of our leadership group and thanks for the laughs and tears we shared … but most importantly, thanks for being #TrueToTheBlue.”

Cheers Nemo and thanks for everything ? You will be greatly missed on and off the field ?

The Springbok back rower made 56 appearances for Wasps, scoring 13 tries, in two-and-a-bit seasons in the Black and Gold. He joined the club permanently at the start of the 2018-19 season after a highly successful three-month loan spell in Coventry in 2017-18, during which time Carr’s explosive pace and carrying skills had him claiming four tries in 11 outings.

“I am delighted to be coming back to Wasps,” Carr said. “I really enjoyed my time at the club, and I can’t wait to play with my teammates in front of the brilliant Wasps fans again.”

In his last season at Wasps, he produced some of his best form with six more tries in nineteen games. He scored some spectacular tries – none more so than the memorable score which snatched a dramatic last-minute win at Bristol in the last game of 2019.

Wasps head coach Lee Blackett said: “We have been looking to recruit a quality back rower for a while and jumped at the opportunity to bring Nemo back to Wasps.

“He was a very popular member of the squad on and off the pitch during his time at the club previously and we all know the positive impact he can have on games. We can’t wait to see him play in Black and Gold once again.”
