Frans Steyn won his midfield battle with Jan Serfontein at Loftus, says MARK KEOHANE.
Steyn, by way of his line and goal-kicking responsibilities, was busier than Serfontein and by virtue of his all-round game made a greater contribution.
Serfontein was strong in defence and capable on attack but Steyn is playing as well as he did in 2007 when the Springboks won the World Cup.
Pat Lambie’s loss to injury within the first five minutes meant Steyn was again responsible for the goal-kicking. He excelled.
His line-kicking was also good, as was his defence. He didn’t get many opportunities on attack but he was busy in defence and aggressive in everything he did.
He kept the Sharks in the game and so nearly won it for them in the final 10 minutes.
