The Vodacom Bulls have slashed ticket prices to R25 for Saturday’s Vodacom United Rugby Championship match against Ulster at Loftus Versfeld and their fans have responded positively to the change.

The bold call was made by Bulls director of rugby Jake White on Tuesday, with CEO Edgar Rathbone supporting White’s decision to offer supporters an opportunity to watch this weekend’s top-flight game.

“This is the least we can offer our supporters who have stood by us for a long time,” Rathbone said.

In line with new government lockdown regulations, the Bulls can host up to 25,000 spectators at Loftus. However, there was a noticeable poor crowd attendance across the country in the URC last weekend, leading to much speculation as to why this could be.

According to a poll run by SARugbymag.co.za, the lowering of ticket prices should have a positive impact on bringing fans back to the stadium.

Over 70% of those who voted said they were eager to take advantage of the special and head to Loftus to watch Ulster No 8 Duane Vermeulen take on his former side.

Around 18% of voters admitted they would need a bit more convincing, but would attend the match if the special included a free boerie roll and a beer.

Only 7% of fans said they definitely would not be going back, despite the ticket price, even if they became overnight millionaires.
