Injured Brown stays behind

Captain Kyle Brown will not be travelling home with the Blitzboks after developing a chest and lung condition known as aspneumothorax.

Brown suffered the injury in the Cup final against New Zealand on Monday. After being taken to hospital, it was determined he developed air in the cavity between his chest wall and lungs, which can cause the lungs to collapse.

Hugh Everson, a member of the Blitzboks medical team who accompanied Brown to the hospital, says the player is doing well and the recommendation that he avoid air travel in purely precautionary.

'Kyle is in good health and at this point he has minimal pain after he was discharged from hospital on Monday morning. The provisional time frame the doctors have given him is between one and three weeks, so Kyle will not travel with the team to South Africa,' Everson said.

Meanwhile, the Blitzboks have been drawn alongside the Scotland, England and Kenya in Pool B for the Hong Kong Sevens in April.
