The Blitzboks advanced to the quarter-finals after scoring seven tries to thump England 43-0 on day two of the Spain Sevens on Saturday.

The Blitzboks were dealt a big blow with the confirmation that captain Siviwe Soyizwapi had been ruled out because of the shoulder injury he suffered against Scotland on Friday.

But even a setback as big as that couldn’t derail the Blitzboks with the ruthless mood they were in.

South Africa started excellently as Branco du Preez stepped his way through the England defence for the opening try.

From the restart, the Blitzboks won a penalty on the ground and immediately sent the ball wide to Impi Visser, who put his head down and charged downfield for his team’s second try and a 12-0 lead.

The South Africans continue to apply the pressure and the English were unable to withstand it, as they conceded several penalties, thus giving possession away.

Playmaker Selvyn Davids was at his brilliant best and set up two tries, scored by Mfundo Ndhlovu and Zain Davids, and Du Preez added the conversions as South Africa took a handy 26-0 lead into the break.

Selvyn Davids went from provider to recipient as they latched on to a pass from Justin Geduld and ran about 70 metres to score at the other end.

England’s poor defensive shape largely contributed to the Blitzboks running riot, those lapses in defence still had to be exploited and that’s what the South Africans did brilliantly.

Geduld and Darren Adonis would round up the scoring with late tries to bring to score to 43-0, just two points short of South Africa’s biggest margin win over England.
