Bosch: Sharks can beat any team in Currie Cup

Published on November 24, 2020

Flyhalf Curwin Bosch believes the Sharks’ performance-driven approach could give them the upper hand in the upcoming Currie Cup campaign.

With the final Vodacom Super Rugby Unlocked log doubling up as the table standings at the beginning of the Currie Cup tournament, the Sharks will start the second domestic competition of the season four points behind the Vodacom Bulls.

But Bosch is adamant the Sharks will make up the shortfall in no time in their quest for Currie Cup glory.

Speaking at a media briefing on Tuesday, Bosch was bullish about the Sharks’ chances in the delayed and revised Currie Cup season.

‘We are performance-driven and the reason for that is so that we have something to measure,’ Bosch explained. ‘Sometimes you can play bad games and get the result, but we know if we perform well the results will definitely come our way.

‘It’s really important that we stick to the structures that we put in place and that we stick to the performances that we want to put out there; if we do that, the results will take care itself. I’m pretty sure if we do perform well every single week that we’ll beat any team we play against,’ he predicted.

Bosch was the leading point-scorer in Super Rugby Unlocked with 63 thanks to his outstanding goal-kicking performances, which earned him three man-of-the-match awards.

When asked if he changed up his kicking routine or whether he altered his approach to kicking for such a positive return, Bosch said it was nothing drastic.

‘It was just a matter of finding a process and sticking to it. I think this year I kicked less and focused more on the quality of those kicks and that has shown in my performances, especially the last three games.

‘I’m in a good space, but as I mentioned in previous interviews, I feel it’s unfair that there are man-of-the-match awards. I’m basically doing my job, the forwards work hard to win us penalties and my job is to just kick them over. It’s a team effort.

‘But, like I said, I’m in a good space and I’m doing the basics well and doing my job to the best of my ability and that’s all that’s expected from me.’

The Sharks kick off their Currie Cup campaign against the Pumas at Kings Park on Friday at 7pm.
