Boks, Rassie up for top awards

The Boks' World Cup squad Boks, Rassie up for top awards
Published on October 31, 2019

The Springboks and Rassie Erasmus have been nominated for the World Rugby Team of the Year and Coach of the Year awards, respectively.

South Africa are one of five teams, alongside fellow World Cup finalists England, hosts Japan, and semi-finalists Wales and New Zealand for the prestigious Team of the Year prize.

The Springboks have won this award thrice before: in 2004, 2007 and 2009.

All five coaches of those respective teams – Erasmus, Eddie Jones, Jamie Joseph, Warren Gatland and Steve Hansen – were nominated in the Coach of the Year category.

Jake White, who was named Coach of the Year in 2004 and 2007, is the only South African to have won the award.
