Springbok lock RG Snyman has undergone surgery after rupturing his knee ligament last month and will begin his rehab this week.

The 26-year-old made his comeback from burns suffered during a fire-pit accident involving Munster teammates Damian de Allende and CJ Stander earlier this year, which extended his absence due to his debut season at Munster being cut short by a long-term knee injury.

However, nine minutes after coming on against Scarlets in the Vodacom United Rugby Championship, the same knee ligaments gave way and he was forced off with a season-ending injury.

In a statement, Munster confirmed the 2019 World Cup winner had successfully undergone surgery on his knee and will be starting with his rehab this week.

Snyman’s last Test appearance was in the 2019 World Cup final and he has subsequently missed out on the British & Irish Lions series, Rugby Championship and Outgoing Tour.
