In a wide-ranging interview with the Daily Mail, Erasmus appeared to be testing public sentiment with regard to the possibility of him replacing Eddie Jones at the helm of England in the near future. Erasmus said he hoped South Africans would back his decision to go, and indeed almost 60% of those polled were sympathetic to his case.

Mark Keohane wrote that Erasmus has earned the right to join England, and that by doing so he wouldn’t be “selling out the Boks”.
