Sharks head coach Sean Everitt says flyhalf Boeta Chamberlain’s continual improvement is adding valuable depth at the position.

Chamberlain kicked six penalties and a conversion for a haul of 20 points in the Sharks’ 30-16 victory over the Vodacom Bulls in Durban on Friday night.

The 22-year-old did miss a couple of shots at goal in the first half, but his overall game management impressed the Sharks coaching staff.

While Curwin Bosch began 2021 as the clear first-choice flyhalf, Chamberlain has started in all five of the Vodacom United Rugby Championship matches so far

“We wanted to continue with Boeta’s growth at No 10,” Everitt said after the game on Friday.

“He’s going to add depth in that position and we haven’t been that fortunate over the last 21 months or so to be able to do that.

“He’s really coming through with flying colours. He’s good under the high ball and that’s a really important part of the game for us.”

The Sharks stocked up at flyhalf by recruiting Argentina international Joaquin ‘Tito’ Dias Bonilla prior to the start of the URC.

“We’ve got Tito who got back to South Africa last week,” Everitt said.

“It’s great to have him here and the more time he gets on the training field, the better he is going to get. He is an international rugby player and a very good one at that.”
