The Blue Bulls edged the Free State XV 22-21 and Griquas hammered the SWD Eagles 84-15 to progress to the semi-finals of the Vodacom Cup.
Free State scored two tries to one, with Tian Schoeman and Tony Jantjies kicking the Bulls to victory.
Schoeman opened the scoring in the second minute with a penalty, before Free State wing Maphutha Dolo scored a try, converted by Riaan Smit, who moments later also added a penalty.
The Bulls’ only five-pointer of the match came from scrumhalf Lohan Jacobs and Free State’s second was scored by loose forward Zingisa April, but a further penalty from Schoeman and three from Jantjies were enough to secure a one-point victory.
