Skipper Siviwe ‘Shakes’ Soyizwapi has promised a more complete performance from the Blitzboks as they look to qualify for the knockout rounds of the Cape Town Sevens unbeaten.

South Africa beat rivals Fiji to climb to the top of pool A on Saturday morning, and will finish their group stages campaign against France at 5pm.

The Blitzboks kick-started their home leg of the World Sevens Series with a 17-7 victory against Canada on Friday.

After trailing 7-0 to the Fijians early in the first half on Saturday, the Blitzboks produced arguably their most impressive performance under new head coach Sandile Ngcobo for a 17-7 victory.

“It wasn’t perfect but I think the attitude and effort the boys put in was world-class,” Soyizwapi told reporters post match.

“There’s always a big rivalry between ourselves and Fiji. We always knew they were going to bring a war, not just a battle so I think the boys handled the intensity well.”

“Our defence system looked after us against Fiji and I think there’s just small areas where we need to get right, getting off the ground and working harder where it’s needed.

“The system is well and has proven itself, not really too worried about it, it’s about getting as close to perfect as possible.”

He added: “We’re looking to improve our game and as I said, in the first two games we showed heart and effort and attitude.

“A small procession that we can focus on in terms of processes, we’ll go look back at the video and then come back.”
