A late fightback from the Blitzboks was not enough as they suffered a narrow defeat by Great Britain in their opening fixture of day two of the Hong Kong Sevens on Saturday.
Great Britain held out against a late fightback from the Springbok Sevens side to claim a 12-10 victory, after going up 12-0 in the second half.
JC Pretorius and Ryan Oosthuizen scored a try each in the final three minutes of the match, but the Blitzboks ran out of time and suffered their first defeat of the tournament, having beaten Uruguay on Friday.
Sandile Ngcobo’s side next face unbeaten France at 11:05am and will have to win that game in order to progress to the Cup quarter-finals.
