The Blitzboks continued their ruthless unbeaten streak with a victory over Australia in the Malaga sevens semi-final putting them through to the gold medal match.

Neil Powell’s side scored just the three tries, two of those in the first half, but were still comfortable in seeing off Australia in a 19-0 victory. It will be the team’s fifth final in five tournaments.

The Blitzboks dominated territory and possession, but were well contained by a determined Australia defence. The wall eventually broke when, after Josh Turner was yellow carded for repeat infringements, Justin Geduld put JC Pretorius over for the opening try.

On the brink of half-time, the Blitzboks extended the lead when Impi Visser won a turnover at the breakdown and the ball was spread to Mfundo Ndlovu to finish near the corner and make it 12-0 at the break.

While Australia saw a bit more of the ball at the start of the second half, forcing South Africa to concede a couple of penalties in a row, it was the Blitzboks who went even further ahead when Selvyn Davids skipped past a tackler in the corner.

On the brink of fulltime, the Blitzboks worked their way close to Australia’s tryline, but Selvyn Davids ultimately opted to kick the ball out and end the match.

The Blitzboks will face Argentina in the final at 7.56pm on Sunday night. The South Americans claimed a 26-17 win against England in the second semi-final.
