The Blitzboks produced another excellent second-half comeback to claim a vital win over Ireland and continue their solid start to the London Sevens on Saturday.

Having come from behind to beat Argentina in their opening fixture, the Blitzboks had to do the same against Ireland to claim a deserved 19-12 victory and boost their chances of progressing from a tough pool.

South Africa next face Kenya in their final pool fixture at 5:08pm, while Argentina and Ireland will face off in the other fixture in the pool.

Facing the team that stunned them a week ago in France, the Blitzboks were under pressure early on when Impi Visser was yellow-carded for a petulant slap-down.

However, South Africa did excellently to survive that period without conceding a point and were able to go into half time with a 7-0 lead after Zain Davids dotted down in the corner.

As against Argentina, the Blitzboks started the second half sluggishly, with Zain Davids’ floated pass intercepted by Jordan Conroy, who levelled the scores. Another poor receive from kick-off allowed Terry Kennedy to put Ireland five points ahead.

That seemed to kick the Blitzboks up into another gear as Muller du Plessis had a try incorrectly chalked off by the TMO. It mattered little, as Ronald Brown put Mfundo Ndluovu over, before Angelo Davids sealed the victory with a try in the corner.
