The All Blacks are in the market for a new major sponsor after insurance giant AIG announced that its current deal with the team will not be renewed after 2021.

AIG has been a headline sponsor for the All Blacks since 2012, with the company’s name appearing on the team’s shirts and shorts.

Its contract with New Zealand Rugby was last renewed in 2016, when there were reports that it was valued in the lower tens of millions annually.

NZR CEO Mark Robinson was confident that AIG has provided them with more than enough time to prepare for new commercial opportunities.

‘We have enjoyed a hugely successful and mutually beneficial commercial partnership that has helped both AIG and NZR to strengthen our respective brands on the world stage.

‘Through this partnership, NZR and the six national teams sponsored by AIG have been able to grow rugby’s presence in new and growing markets, with opportunities to play in new territories and introduce our teams to new fans all over the world.’

‘AIG has been a special partner not only because of their presence on the front of the treasured black jersey, but because they have been a leading voice on social issues that are dear to NZR and to our athletes.’

Despite the termination, NZR’s commercial revenues are expected to increase after striking a new broadcasting deal with Sky Television, believed to be worth $500 million over the next five years.
