Schalk Burger is the five-time defending Hit King for his tackle on Fourie du Preez, but can he keep his place against one of rugby’s most notorious hitmen, Willem Alberts?
Burger has fended off all of Courtney Lawes, Bismarck du Plessis, Brian Lima, Bakkies Botha and Henry Tuilagi to remain in the king seat. Last week, Burger was the overwhelming favourite against Tuilagi’s shuddering tackle on Ben Foden.
Now, he faces a challenge from one of South Africa’s most-feared tacklers, Willem ‘Bone Collector’ Alberts, the man who left Burger with cracked ribs after a hit in the 2010 Currie Cup final.
