After suffering a narrow defeat in the first contest between the two, Bakkies Botha has another opportunity to dethrone seven-time champion Schalk Burger as the king of big hits.
Burger has fended off all of Courtney Lawes, Bismarck du Plessis, Brian Lima, Bakkies Botha, Henry Tuilagi and Willem Alberts to keep his title for rugby’s biggest hit. Last week, Burger was once again the overwhelming favourite against former Springbok captain Corne Krige.
However, Burger will now have to again defend his title against one of rugby’s most feared enforcers.

In a Tri-Nations Test between South Africa and Australia at Newlands in 2009, the Springboks were leading 26-10 in the second half. In the 63rd minute, the Wallabies regained possession on their side of halfway and tried to launch a blindside counter-attack. Wallabies centre Berrick Barnes received the ball and tried to look for space on the outside. However, an unsighted Bakkies Botha saw what Barnes was trying to do and smashed him in a perfect tackle, dislodging the ball in the process. The Springboks would go on to win the Test 29-17.
Western Province hosted the Blue Bulls in the 2009 Currie Cup semi-final and Schalk Burger obliterated Springbok teammate Fourie du Preez with a hit that brought the Newlands faithful to their feet.
