Stormers fullback Gio Aplon has reportedly met with Grenoble coach Fabrice Landreau regarding a possible move to the French Top 14 side.
French newspaper Midi Olympique claims that Grenoble are ‘close to signing’ the 31-year-old speedster, and Landreau's comments show the desire to acquire the services of Aplon.
‘[Aplon] is a versatile player, he can play centre, wing or fullback,’ said Landreau. ‘He has a lot of experience with the Springboks and Stormers.’
If Aplon were to join Grenoble, he’d be among several other high-profile signings in recent months, and would join the likes of South African centre Rudi Coetzee and former Wallaby Peter Kimlin, with French flyhalf Jonathan Wisniewski also looking to be joining the club.
The paper also suggested that Grenoble were after Blues and All Blacks centre Francis Saili, but Landreau has denied making any contact with Saili.
