Former New Zealand star-centre Sonny Bill Williams is on the verge of resigning with rugby league team the Sydney Roosters.

Williams enjoyed a stint at the Roosters back in 2013 and given the financial turmoil of his current team, Canadian outfit Toronto Wolfpack, the two-time World Cup winning All Black could very well be on his way back to Australia, according to Roosters head coach Trent Robinson.

‘We’re down the track in discussions with Sonny,’ said Robinson in a club statement on Friday.

‘There’s a few things that need to be done to get it sorted but conversations are clear… it’s just all the details that need to get sorted with how it’s going to work.

‘Travel won’t be until next week, it’s hard to get flights back, and then a quarantine period and training period.’

Williamson, however, requires special exemption to enter Australia under the country’s current travel ban given he still has a New Zealand passport.

It would mean that Williams has to undergo a 14-day quarantine period before he is allowed to participate in the final few games of the season.

But, Robinson reckons that a player of Williams’ calibre will add great value to the team nonetheless.

‘He’s a Rooster and he’s going to add value in some really key areas,’ he added.
