Fullback Tristan Leyds scored a hat-trick as Bishops thrashed Pretoria Boys' 59-0 at the Jeppe Festival on Monday.
Bishops' score could have been even greater had the match not ended 12 minutes early to accommodate the KES vs Westville game (the latter had a bus to catch to Durban).
The try-fest began after 11 minutes through flyhalf James Macdonald, and a hat-trick from Leyds, the brother of Stormers wing Dillyn, saw Bishops leading 31-0 at the break.
The Cape side continued to dominate in the second half with inside centre Cornel Smit and left wing André Manuel crossing the line. Another two tries, both from intercepts, completed the rout.
'Bishops play an exciting brand of rugby and we were simply blown away,' Pretoria Boys' coach Mike Housdon told SARugbymag.co.za. 'Our lack of execution and intensity, and the number of missed tackles we made, cost us, and the boys lost their self belief. We showed more heart in the second half, but it wasn't enough.'
In other results, hosts Jeppe beat DHS 27-21, Maritzburg College edged Parktown 23-18 and KES triumphed 18-11 over Westville.
