Coetzee off to Japan

Stormers coach Allister Coetzee is set to join the Kobe Kobelco Steelers in Japan at the end of this year's Vodacom Super Rugby tournament.

According to SuperSport.com's Gavin Rich, the two-time Currie Cup-winning coach has made a firm commitment to replace Gary Gold as Kobe coach. Gold has left the Japanese club to become the Sharks director of rugby.

Coetzee is understood to have been put out by the recruitment of former Springbok and Kenya Sevens coach Paul Treu, who has no experience of coaching 15-man rugby, as a Stormers assistant coach without the management being consulted.

Other points of contention for Coetzee were understood to be the continued political interference from administrators that are a fact of life in WP rugby, plus the power he lost when Gert Smal was appointed above him as director of rugby.
