Former Wallabies fullback Israel Folau Folau follows anti-gay sermon with post
Published on June 18, 2019 | Leave a response

Israel Folau courted more controversy by following up an anti-gay sermon on Sunday with a social-media post proclaiming that he works for God.

In a sermon at the Truth of Jesus Christ Church in Kenthurst on Sunday, Folau, whose homophobic views cost him his multi-million dollar contract with Rugby Australia, launched another attack on homosexuality, proclaiming it to be a sin before saying the devil was behind the decision to allow Australian primary school children to change gender.

‘This is what the devil is trying to do, to instil into the government, into this world, into society, and it is slowly happening,’ Folau said in a video uploaded on the church’s Facebook page.

‘The sad thing is why a lot of people out there that are non-Christians say bad things about the church, is because a lot of the churches allow those things to happen.

‘They say that a man and a man should be able to be married and there is nothing wrong with it. This buys into the theme of pleasing man rather than pleasing God and standing up for the truth.’

On Monday evening, Folau then uploaded a picture on to his Instagram and Twitter accounts, quoting a Bible verse and proclaiming his work to be that of God and not man.

‘For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man,’ the post read.’ If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.’

The former Wallabies star had his contract with Rugby Australia and the Waratahs torn up last month after he refused to take down an Instagram post which quoted Bible scripture claiming homosexuals, among others, were destined for hell.

Folau’s lawyers have since launched legal proceedings with the Australian Fair Work Commission and are seeking up to $10 million in damages.
