Edinburgh thrashed Toulon 40-14, while there were also wins for Castres, Munster, Racing, Saracens and Leicester in round two of the European Champions Cup.

Edinburgh have not been in the best of form, but were still able to outscore Toulon four tries to two. Flyhalf Jaco van der Walt was impressive off the kicking tee, slotting three conversions and four penalties for a game-high 16-point contribution.

Edinburgh led 26-7 at half-time after converted tries by Ben Toolis and Henry Pyrgos and four Van der Walt penalties.

At the start of the second half, Stuart McInally breached Toulon’s fragile defensive line for a converted effort.

There were to be no more points from either side until the last 10 minutes. Toulon went over for their second try to get their tally into double figures, before Chris Dean powered over to seal a bonus-point win for Edinburgh.

In a thrilling Pool 1 clash, Wasps and Bath played to a 35-35 draw. Both sides racked up five converted tries, with Ashley Johnson scoring for Wasps and Francois Louw for Bath.

In other results, Munster beat Gloucester 36-22 at Thomond Park and 14-man Castres held on for a 29-25 win over the Exeter Chiefs in the two Pool 2 fixtures of the round.

Playing at Allianz Park, Saracens were just too good for French side Lyon, claiming a 29-10 bonus-point victory to move to the top of the Pool 3 log.

In the two Pool 4 fixtures, Racing powered to an impressive 44-12 triumph against Ulster and the Leicester Tigers defeated the Scarlets 45-27.

Champions Cup Round 2 results so far:

Edinburgh 40 Toulon 14
Wasps 35 Bath 35
Munster 36 Gloucester 22
Castres 29 Exeter Chiefs 25
Saracens 29 Lyon 10
Racing 44 Ulster 12
Leicester Tigers 45 Scarlets 27
