The inaugural World Schools Festival will go ahead as planned, despite the ongoing drought in the Western Cape.

The international event, which will feature 10 South African schools as well as 10 of the best schools from around the world, will be hosted by Paarl Boys’ High from 2-7 April as part of the school’s 150-year anniversary celebrations.

The school has belayed fears that the festival, along with the annual Craven Week set to be held at the same venue, will be cancelled due to the drought.

Two additional boreholes have been drilled near the school, with the water tested and confirmed to be of acceptable drinking quality. A sponsor will also provide drinking water for the festival.

The tournament is a brainchild of former Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer, who will invite some of the world’s best coaches to work with the youngsters and local coaches, in order to assist in driving development by raising domestic standards across the board.
