No 8 Cam Dolan scored a hat-trick as the USA thrashed arch-rivals Canada 42-17 in Halifax on Saturday.

The visitors continued their fine form after wins against Russia and Scotland by cruising to victory in the first-ever Test match in Nova Scotia, extending their winning run over Canada to eight matches.

Nate Augspurger, Blaine Scully and Cheetahs scrumhalf Ruben de Haas also scored tries for the USA, while flyhalf AJ MacGinty kicked three conversions and two penalties in another impressive performance.

Canada opened the scoring in the 16th minute when Shane O’Leary converted a penalty, but the USA hit back when MacGinty recovered his own kick to set up Dolan for his first try. MacGinty then kicked a penalty, before Augspurger dotted down to give the Eagles a 13-3 half-time lead.

The USA came out firing in the second half, with Dolan scoring his second of the match in the 45th minute. Canada then hit back through a try from Evan Olmstead, before Dolan completed his hat-trick as the visitors started to run away with the match.

Jeff Hassler scored Canada’s second try, but the home side was simply overpowered in the last 20 minutes, with Scully and De Haas both crossing to seal a stylish win for the USA.
