Prop Beast Mtawarira has been issued with an off-field yellow card and an official warning for foul play.

Mtawarira, who overtook Os du Randt as the most-capped Bok prop of all time in Saturday’s Test against Australia, was cited for contravening Law 10.4(e): Dangerous tackling around an opponent’s neck.

The incident occurred in the 21st minute of the Test when Mtawarira grabbed David Pocock by the neck in an attempt to clear him out at a ruck.

The match referee only awarded a penalty at the time, but upon further review of the match footage, the citing commissioner deemed an off-field warning – equating to a yellow card – was appropriate.
