Speedster Madosh Tambwe will start for Bordeaux alongside captain and fellow former Shark Jandre Marais when the teams clash in the Champions Cup at Stade Chaban-Delmas on Friday.
Tambwe has been named at left wing, while Marais slots into the second row, as the French Top 14 side look to rebound after a loss at Gloucester in the opening round of the 2022-23 competition.
Marais made 59 appearances for the Sharks between 2009 and 2013, while Tambwe had a stint with the Durbanites from 2019 to 2021.
The Congo-born flyer has been in sensational form for Bordeaux since joining from the Vodacom Bulls in the off-season, and he is eager to lock horns with his former teammates on Friday.
TEAM: Sharks get Bok boost for Bordeaux duel
“I was looking forward to this happening. There are a few players I played with when I was at the Sharks. Then I went to play for the Bulls before coming here,” he told Bordeaux’s website.
“So obviously playing against the Sharks will be a good time for me. I know what to expect, so it will make me happy to see people I know and met in South Africa.
“It’s true that I haven’t had the opportunity to see many people again since I arrived in France, so it’s going to be really nice. I know that during the match we will be focused, but I hope that after the match we will all have the opportunity to get together a little.
Tambwe added: “The Sharks have a great team. It is true that we do not forget that they have about 11 current players with the Springboks so we will have to be careful.
“They have very good qualities on the wings and they arrive in France with a victory against Harlequins last weekend. They will definitely be confident.
“We have to draw our strength from the fact that we play at home in Chaban. We know it’s going to be a tough game!”
