Former Springbok flyhalf Joel Stransky will have plastic surgery following his nasty fall in the Cape Epic.
Stransky crashed his mountain bike during the opening prologue at the Meerendal Wine Estate in Durbanville on Sunday. He suffered bad cuts to the face, a broken rib and punctured lung.
The 49-year-old underwent surgery on Monday and will also have plastic surgery to repair the damage to his face.
'I’m in immense pain, but I’m receiving painkillers and it helps me to sleep,' he told Netwerk24. 'I’m lying with a pipe in my rib cage to drain out the moisture that has formed on my lungs – which was caused by the broken rib.'
On Wednesday, Stransky tweeted a photo of himself walking in the hospital parking lot:
Really good night sleep! Thanks again all for inspiring support! Got me up walking & almost back to the mountains! @CapeEpic #LandRoverZA pic.twitter.com/sodvYk9YOG
