SA Rugby should consider the edgy Scott Robertson to replace Jacques Nienaber as Springboks coach after the 2023 Rugby World Cup, according to MARK KEOHANE.
A highly successful Super Rugby coach with the Crusaders, Robertson has expressed interest in taking charge of England, despite his preference to take over Ian Foster’s role with the All Blacks.
Keohane, in his blog, suggested that Rassie Erasmus bring in sacked England coach Eddie Jones as a Springboks consultant for the world champions Boks’ title defence in France next year.
Now, in his TimesLIVE column, Keohane extols the qualities of ‘Razor’ Robertson, and why securing the 48-year-old’s services for the Boks in 2024 would be a stroke of genius by South Africa’s rugby bosses.

“The Kiwi, a Super Rugby title winner and All Black, was a very good player, but he is an exceptional coach,” he writes.
“Robertson, as Crusaders coach, has won six successive Super Rugby titles. He was the obvious All Blacks coach to everyone except New Zealand rugby’s bosses.
“Robertson and the Springboks have never been mentioned as an option. I am mentioning it because I believe they would be a great fit.
“England got it wrong in axing Jones. New Zealand got it wrong in not appointing Robertson. South Africa could get it so right in investing in Robertson, long-term, and Jones, short-term.
“Personally, I would be chasing Robertson for 2024 for the Boks and I’d be wanting Eddie’s technical acumen to add to the 2023 Boks World Cup.”
