The Blitzboks scored two second-half tries to beat Canada and make a winning start to their quest for a first Cape Town Sevens title since 2015.
Having trailed 7-5 at the break, South Africa kickstarted their campaign with a superb second-half performance at Cape Town Stadium on Friday night to claim a 17-7 victory.
Two quickfire tries from Shilton van Wyk and Ryan Oosthuizen made the difference for the hosts, after Canada enjoyed the better of the first half.

The visitors stunned the home support into silence when, after a breathless and end-to-end start to the match, they opened the scoring through Alex Russell. However, Muller du Plessis had the fans back on their feet when he crossed the tryline just before the break.
The Springbok Sevens will face Fiji at 11.19am, before taking on France at 5pm in their final two pool fixtures on Saturday.
