Vodacom Bulls coach Jake White was cautiously optimistic about Elrigh Louw’s ankle injury after their 44-22 win over Benetton in Treviso.
The No 8 was carried off the field by his teammates with a taped right ankle.
“We’re going to scan it now when we get back to the hotel,” White said during the post-match media conference.
“He said he heard something ‘go’, which – and this may sound weird – isn’t a bad thing because generally when you get a syndesmosis [fibrous joint held together by ligaments] injury you don’t really hear anything and that’s like an eight-week injury. So, hopefully it’s not too serious.”
Louw is almost certain to miss the Bulls’ next match, against the Sharks at Loftus next Sunday, but could be fit for their next set of fixtures.
“I very much doubt that he will be available to run on Monday but we’ve got one game and then four weeks off, so maybe he could be available by the end of November,” White said.
