Tshituka: I want to do it all at Sharks

Barnstorming loose forward Vincent Tshituka is champing at the bit to make his much-anticipated debut for the Cell C Sharks in the Vodacom United Rugby Championship on Saturday.

A shoulder injury ruled him out of the Durbanites’ first three games of the 2022-23 URC, but Tshituka joined the tour squad in Dublin last week in preparation for a clash with Glasgow Warriors at Kings Park.

The 23-year-old was one of the top South African performers in the URC last season, winning a series of Man of the Match awards with the Emirates Lions, before moving to Durban, where he adds to a potent loose-forward stock alongside Springbok skipper Siya Kolisi and former SA U20s standout Phepsi Buthelezi.

Tshituka also complements the hard edge of world-class Bok enforcer Eben Etzebeth, primed to make his debut at The Shark Tank on Saturday.

In an article on IOL, Tshituka said: “I am well aware of the class of the loose forwards at the Sharks. This is what is going to help me take my game to the next level, because I want to be in an environment where I feel I have to constantly produce my best week in and week out.

“I have always tried to do that, but this will give me extra motivation. I can play different roles, but No 7 is my position of choice simply because it is where you are most involved in the game and that is my thing — my work ethic is my X factor.

“I want to contribute and at No 7; you are slap bang in the middle of defence, and then on attack, you are always asked to carry and create momentum.

“Can I steal ball? Yes, I have done my fair share. I feel I am versatile but I want to be in the centre of it all, so No 7 is the perfect position for me.”
