Morne Steyn’s epic long-range kick that sealed the 2009 British & Irish Lions series has ended Frans Steyn’s reign as the Bok Sharpshooter.
Frans’ 60-metre rocket against New Zealand in 2009 shot down Werner Greeff‘s heroics against the Wallabies in 2002, garnering almost 95% of the vote, before kicking Jannie de Beer‘s 1999 RWC semi-final kick against Australia out of contention with 81% of the vote.
Pat Lambie was the next challenger, but his long-range winner against the All Blacks in 2014 came up just short as Frans won a tightly contested battle with 56% of the vote.

The penultimate match-up pitted Joel Stransky‘s iconic 1995 drop goal against Frans, but Steyn surprisingly survived by claiming 64% of the vote.
The finale, dubbed ‘Battle of the Steyns’, pitted Frans against former teammate and clutch-kicker of note, Morne Steyn.

Morne won the duel in the final match-up of this series, his 2009 B&I Lions series winner securing 61% of the vote and comprehensively dismissing his competitor to be crowned the king of clutch kicks.
