Springbok supporters have made it clear that Elton Jantjies should be the last resort to take over at flyhalf for South Africa in the event of Handre Pollard being ruled out of the 2023 World Cup.
An SARugbymag.co.za poll asked fans to choose their preferred candidate to serve as Pollard’s wingman, a position that has been held by Jantjies since 2018.
Jantjies is coming off his worst performance in the green-and-gold jersey. Thrust into the starting lineup in July after six months on the sidelines, Jantjies was pulled after a horror-show 40 minutes against Wales in Pretoria.
BOK TEAM: Boks expect sharper Elton, more minutes for Duane
Readers invested 96% of the vote in the six other options, and only 4% agreed with the Bok selectors that Jantjies is the man for the job. Jantjies lost out to all of Curwin Bosch, Jordan Hendrikse, Chris Smith, Manie Libbok, Damian Willemse and Johan Goosen.
Goosen, Willemse and Libbok were the three favourites with the Vodacom Bulls flyhalf claiming 29% of the vote, Bok dynamo Willemse 25% and Stormers pivot Libbok 21%.
