Heyneke Meyer has backed the Springboks to beat the Wallabies in Australia for the first time since his team achieved the feat in 2013.
For the next leg of the Rugby Championship tournament, the Boks take on the Wallabies in Adelaide (27 August) and then Sydney (3 September).

However, the statistics show that Australia has been far from a happy hunting ground for the Springboks. Out of the 41 Tests between the two teams in Australia, South Africa has won just 12.
Since winning the first Test of the 1993 series against the then world champions, the Springboks have never again beaten the Wallabies in Sydney in seven attempts.
The Springboks most recently tasted victory on Australian soil, when Heyneke Meyer’s team in 2013 claimed a 38-12 win in Brisbane.
Speaking to BokSquad.co.za, the former Springbok coach provided insight into how the current squad under Jacques Nienaber can break their losing streak Down Under.
“We have a very experienced team, with players like Eben [Etzebeth] and Handre [Pollard], both of whom began their Test careers when I was Bok coach. It’s a team that knows how to win, and knows how to win away from home,’ said Meyer.

“But to win in Australia, the Boks will have to strangle the Wallabies from the start.
“If they concede two early tries, it will be difficult for them to come back. We are not good when we have to chase a game away from home. Then you can’t just maul. You also have to consider that 50-50 decisions by the referee tend to go against the away side.
“The Boks will need to build a score and put the Wallabies under pressure, as we did in 2013.”
