Coach John Dobson has added to the Stormers’ depth for the 2022-23 Vodacom United Rugby Championship season by roping in a hard grafter with previous ties to Western Province Rugby.
Former UCT lock Gary Porter has returned to Cape Town to fortify the Stormers title defence, which kicks off against Connacht at home on 24 September.
“Gary and his high work rate fit the type of game we would like to play and we are looking forward to seeing him grow in our environment as we take on a very tough season,” Dobson said.

Porter is back in South Africa after a season playing for the Ealing Trailfinders in the RFU Championship and adds valuable lock depth for the Stormers ahead of a demanding season.
He joined the WP Rugby Institute after matriculating from Michaelhouse before representing UCT in the Varsity Cup.
“These are exciting times here and I want to contribute wherever I can within this system and grow as a player,” Porter said.
