An action-packed weekend of schools rugby derbies across the country is highlighted by the Interschools duel between rivals Maritzburg College and Glenwood on Saturday.
The 175th meeting between the two schools is set to kick off at 2pm at Maritzburg’s famous Goldstones field in Pietermaritzburg.
The first match between the two schools was played in 1921 at Glenwood, won 5-0 by the hosts. College dominated from there on, with their current winning margin (110 to 47) thanks to great teams during the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s.
But, since the late 90s, Glenwood has developed into a real powerhouse and College have only managed one win and two draws (17 between the teams in total) in 16 matches played. They didn’t play in 2020 due to the pandemic but over two matches in 2021, each team away from home.
