Outeniqua produced the result of the schools rugby weekend as a try in the last five minutes saw the Kwaggas claim a stunning victory over Paarl Boys’ High in George on Saturday.
The 21-20 win comes just one week after Boishaai held on to deny Paarl Gimnasium in the famous Paarl Interschools clash.
Outeniqua’s win was built on the foundation of an impressively physical performance from the forward pack. The Kwaggas challenged Boishaai with strong driving mauls.
It was loosehead prop Ruan Swart who was the hero for the home side, powering over with five minutes left to play. Flyhalf Cliffe Jacobs nailed the conversion to give Outeniqua the lead for the first time, and victory, in the match.
In the Eastern Cape, Muir College celebrated their 200th year with a rugby festival, the first team losing out to Grey High in an entertaining game (29-23).
Over in KwaZulu-Natal, Maritzburg College claimed a 34-30 win against Johannesburg’s KES, while Durban High beat Parktown 26-10.
Futher north, in the Pretoria derby, Affies proved too strong for Pretoria Boys’ High, in a 55-10 win, while Monument and Garsfontein secured home semi-finals in the Noordvaal Trophy.
