The labour court has ruled that SA Rugby must reinstate André Watson in his role as head of referees.
SA Rugby terminated Watson's employment in 2015 following an independent investigation into grievances that were lodged against him by a number of people within the referees' department, relating to his 'dictatorial, strict and abrasive management style'.
In 2016, Watson proceeded to fight what he deemed his unfair dismissal in the labour court, and on Friday his lawyer, Bertie Grobbelaar, confirmed to Netwerk24.com's Stephen Nell that the court ruled in favour of Watson's reappointment.
'The labour court rescinded the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration's findings that there was enough proof to dismiss André. The court ordered SA Rugby to reverse the sacking and instead they must sanction André with a written warning,' Grobbelaar told Netwerk24.com.
'The order also stipulates that he be restored, with immediate effect, to his position at Saru. He must be given the same service contract and benefits, as well as a large portion of his salary, which he lost.'
