Former Springbok coach Allister Coetzee looks set for another crack at lifting the Webb Ellis Cup at next year’s showpiece event in France.
Now in charge of Namibia, Coetzee is one win away from qualifying for the 2023 World Cup after his troops beat Zimbabwe 34-19 in Marseille on Wednesday.
The 59-year-old served as assistant coach for Jake White’s 2007 World Cup-winning squad, before taking charge of the Boks between 2016 and 2018, only to be fired a year before their World Cup triumph in Japan.

Namibia will face Kenya in the final of the qualification tournament, where Algeria, Uganda, Cote D’Ivoire and Burkina Faso also participated for the right to compete for the highest honour in the sport.
On Wednesday, the Namibians opened the scoring through wing JC Greyling before Zimbabwe replied for a 7-7 half-time score. Coetzee’s men then hit back with a second-half penalty try, before Janco Venter scored their third with the Zimbabweans down to 14 men following a yellow card.
Greyling crossed the whitewash again at the death to ensure Namibia’s place in the final on Sunday.
