The Springboks have been led by some inspirational men – here’s your chance to decide which of these two charismatic skippers was your favourite.

Siya Kolisi was named Bok skipper on 28 May 2018, becoming the first black player to hold the position, and the third man to lead South Africa to World Cup glory in 2019.

The 63-capped loose forward was named SA Rugby’s Player of the Year after a stunning 2021 in which he led the Boks to a British & Irish Lions series success.

He was the only Bok to play in all 13 Tests last year and went on to captain the side under difficult circumstances in the Rugby Championship, which culminated in a nail-biting win over the All Blacks.

Kolisi, who will turn 31 on 16 June, co-founded the Kolisi Foundation to further his philanthropic ventures, and his alma mater, Grey High, recently renamed the main rugby field after him.

Jean de Villiers became the 54th Bok captain to lead his country against England in 2012, scoring a try to help SA win the first Test of a three-match series.

De Villiers, who was named the SA Rugby Player of the Year in 2008 and 2013, was capped 109 times for the Boks and captained the team on 37 occasions.

He is the Boks’ fourth all-time leading try-scorer, won the Tri-Nations/Rugby Championship twice, and participated in three World Cups, his last as captain in 2015. Talented and creative, De Villiers overcame several injury blows to build a reputation as one of the world’s best inside centres.
