The latest edition of SA Rugby magazine hails the performance of the South African teams in the Vodacom United Rugby Championship and looks at how each side had laid the foundations for their success in the tournament.
The Sharks, Stormers and Vodacom Bulls have all progressed to the quarter-finals of the URC, with the Stormers and Bulls set to host playoff fixtures after finishing inside the top four.
This is despite the fact that only seven of the Springbok 23 who did duty in the 2019 World Cup final are contracted to one of SA’s URC teams. The foundation for the success has been laid by the blend of bulletproof youngsters – such as Evan Roos, Elrigh Louw, Vincent Tshituka and Phepsi Buthelezi – paired with grizzled journeymen, such as Deon Fourie and Marcell Coetzee.
The latest edition also looks at how – in the aftermath of ‘factional infighting’ – WP Professional Rugby chairman Crispin Sonn is working hard to restore confidence in the union.
There is also a tribute to the late Pedrie Wannenburg and a look at SA-born Canada flyer DTH van der Merwe’s latest stop in his 15-year career.
