Danny Wilson says Glasgow Warriors must “go toe to toe” with the Vodacom Bulls on Saturday to avoid slinking home from a winless tour of South Africa, reports DEVIN HERMANUS.
Glasgow’s defeat by the Stormers on Friday dashed all hopes of becoming the first European side to win back-to-back Vodacom United Rugby Championship matches in SA.
A telling second-half performance from the Capetonians secured a vital bonus-point victory and propelled John Dobson’s men into second place on the URC log, while the Scots dropped to sixth.
Wilson’s troops now have to rally for a trip to the Highveld against the Bulls, who fought back from 13-0 down at Loftus Versfeld to defeat Benetton 46-29 on Saturday.
The Pretoria outfit is in eighth position and a win at the weekend would have them leapfrogging Glasgow.
“Some of the games we’ve lost we still picked up points, so it was disappointing not to get any [on Friday]. We didn’t build pressure when holding the ball, and kicked poorly,” said Wilson.
“We’ve seen that most tight games against SA teams, at 50-60 minutes, have gone the way of the SA sides. In SA, you need to go 80 minutes to go toe to toe with the South African teams, but we still believe we can beat the Bulls.
“This league is so tight, the top-nine teams are battling for eight places … we’ve been in the top for the majority of the season, but quite easily we could drop or jump a few places,” the Glasgow coach added.
“And even making the top eight you could still come back out to SA … they’ve got very good teams and can see why they’re world champions.”
