Springbok lock Lood de Jager has reportedly decided whether he will be playing in South Africa or Japan after he leaves Sale Sharks at the end of the season.
Earlier in April, Sale Sharks confirmed that Springboks De Jager and Faf de Klerk will leave the English Premiership club at the end of the current season.
The pair played key roles for Sale last season as the club finished third in the English Premiership and reached the playoffs for the first time in 15 years.
According to Sunday newspaper Rapport, despite both the Vodacom Bulls and Stormers showing an interest in De Jager’s services, the lock has decided to join Bok teammate De Klerk in continuing his career in Japan.
The 29-year-old was unable to confirm which team he will be joining, but told the newspaper that his decision to leave Sale was influenced by him wanting to spend more time with his family.
The ongoing Japan League One season started in January and will end in May, which is far shorter than the 42 weeks of the Premiership season.
“Covid-19 has given us a new perspective on what is important in your life. We want us and our children to spend more time with the family,” said De Jager.
“I enjoyed my rugby at Sale Sharks, especially the competitive leagues.”
